“I will show you how to do it quickly, and without pricking your fingers all the time…” Cerid picked a boll from an overhanging branch, deftly removing the cotton lint from it with nimble fingers. He opened the bag to stuff it in.
Lund suddenly grabbed hold of his hand, spreading out the fingers. “You are a girl.” There was no question in his tone, merely a statement of fact.
Cerid pulled away the hand and gave him a startled look. “How did you know?”
“Your fingers, your walk, your voice… but mostly the way you speak in my mind.”
There was no immediate reply, but only an amusing inspection of the giveaway fingers. She wet her hands from the skin and rubbed away the dirt from her face; then pulled the cloth cap from her head. Pale yellow hair, the same shade as his, fell down her back. “But for that, the speaking, you would not know?”
He stared at her, shaking his head. “I believe not.” She gained a little color under his gaze. “What is your name?”
“Ceridwyn.”
